Dr Rachel Ting Sing Kiat

Senior Lecturer – Psychology
Dr. Rachel Ting Sing Kiat is currently a full-time senior lecturer at Monash University Malaysia, Department of Psychology. She has been an active licensed psychologist and eligible clinical supervisor (PSY23014)in California since 2008. Previously she was employed by Fuller Graduate School of Psychology as Research assistant professor, and postdoctoral fellow by University of Southern California in 2006-2008. After returning to Asia, she was employed as a senior lecturer at HELP University College of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 2008-2010, where she taught, supervised and advised Master degree students from both counseling and clinical psychology program. After that, she was recruited as an Associate Professor at China University of Political Science and Law, School of Sociology (Beijing) from 2012-2015.
Dr. Ting holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College (APA accredited), Illinois, USA, a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary USA, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology (APA accredited). She finished her doctoral internship at University of California, San Diego (APA accredited). Dr. Ting has 20 years of clinical expertise and experiences in college mental health, learning disability assessment, and multicultural and trauma issues. Her clinical orientation is an integration of systemic approach and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She has been a part-time private practitioner and invited trainer at various mental health institutes in China and Malaysia. Currently she is also a consultant to InPsych Psychological & Counselling Services at Kuala Lumpur. Besides, she has been actively involved in the disaster relief in Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan since 2008 and found her own humanitarian service organization (“Barefoot voluntary service group”) in China.
As an active researcher, Dr. Ting has received several international research funding in recent years, and published 8 books, 5 book chapters, 23 journal articles in both English and Chinese till date. As a multilingual Chinese descent, Dr. Ting is proficient in Mandarin, Foochow, and English. She is also a regular column writer for the SinChew Daily newspapers. She also presented regularly in multiple international conferences, including APA annual convention. Dr. Ting is an active member of the American Psychology Association (APA), and the Ethics Committee Chair for Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology. Her recent research areas are indigenous psychology within Asian contexts, disaster mental health, and spirituality in psychotherapy.
