Dr. Sheila Marie “Shake” Guevarra-Hocson, as the past President of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) for 2016-2018 and 2022-2023 and was a branch leader and mentor for the American Counseling Association (ACA). She holds other crucial roles as Mental Health Consultant for the Office of the President, Presidential Management Staff, Malacanang, Senior Technical Consultant of the Unilab Foundation, Consultant and Author of Rex Publication, Consultant of Inno Change International, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education and TESDA, Guidance Director, Research Fellow and Professor of and part of the Technical Working Group for Healthy Learning Institutions, Student Affairs and Services, Health and Wellbeing, Anti-hazing and Regional Quality Assessor of Commission on Higher Education. Moreover, she authored books, published Scopus indexed papers, a research peer reviewer for Elsevier, Routledge, Manuscript Central and an Editorial member at Asia Pacific Career Development Association that played a pivotal role in mental health and wellbeing programs and resources in our country and abroad. She was a TV and radio host at the ABSCEN DZMM Teleradyo show “Juander Titser” and digital content maker of Social Emotional Learning and Character Strengths weekly videos in the said show. Her academic credentials include being a registered psychologist, guidance counselor, psychometrician and teacher. She holds certifications in counseling psychology, assessment psychology and clinical and counseling supervision. Dr Hocson’s achievements include leading PGCA to win the American Counseling Association Branch, Best Innovative Practice Award and receiving awards for her outstanding contributions to the field. She’s also actively involved in community missions and is a founder of PGA’s Peer Organization of the Philippines, Bayanihan for Wellbeing and various organizations focused on mental health.
