A Registered Music Therapist by training, Asami brings over a decade of experience across youth mental health, suicide prevention, community development and service design.

Drawing on her lived experience as a first-generation Japanese migrant, Asami is passionate about bridging the gap between mental health services and culturally diverse communities.

She heads Shapes & Sounds, an Australian-based social enterprise dedicated to improving mental health outcomes for Asian and migrant communities through culturally responsive engagement, education and systems change. Through Shapes and Sounds, she has partnered with state and federal governments, universities and mental health organisations to deliver consultation, training, research and community-led initiatives.

Asami also hosts the Asian Mental Health Podcast, which amplifies the voices of practitioners, researchers and lived experience advocates across Australia. Her work focuses on cultural responsiveness, belonging, migration, identity and innovative approaches to improving access to mental health support.
